The Location
Steamboat Springs in the summer is a treasure. The mid-June sun does not set until 8:40pm, leaving you endless summer hours to enjoy the natural beauty of this lovely mountain town. There are many easily accessible hiking trails, with options for those of all abilities and aspirations. You do not have to go far to find beauty and solitude in this part of the world. There is spectacular riding for cyclists of all persuasions. If you enjoy or have been wanting to try "gravel cycling", Steamboat gravel serves as a wonderful and user-friendly introduction. There are rivers and lakes for fishing and all manner of aquatic pursuits. And then there are the Hot Springs which is how the town got its name. There is everything from wild hot springs in the forest where getting to them is half the fun, to a large community center right in the center of town where you can enjoy natural Hot Springs and heated pools.
Your Vacation
Our lecture schedule is designed to give you plenty of time each day to unwind and enjoy your vacation in the Colorado Rockies. We believe that the relaxed mind is a more focused mind, and that the more focused mind is more apt to learn and retain. The conference will begin at 4pm on Friday June 14th and the final hour of CE will be done by noon on Sunday the 16th. To welcome you to Steamboat there will be a social event Friday evening at 7pm at the Yampa Valley Brewing Company (with plus ones welcome). YVBC is only a 2-minute walk from our meeting and food and beverages will be provided. If you have never been to one of our meetings, we draw a really nice group of veterinarians and we look forward to seeing you there. This event is made possible by the support of our friends at Monarch Consulting.
Steamboat Springs in the peak of summer may just be the best time you will ever have at work.
Etc.
Steamboat Springs is about a 3h scenic drive from the Denver airport. If you would like to upgrade your CE vacation, add a day and drive in via Rocky Mountain National Park. The closest airport to Steamboat Springs (25 miles away) is Hayden Valley Regional Airport (HDN), and you can rent a car or take a shuttle from there into Steamboat. The Salt Lake City airport (SLC) is about a 5.5h drive. The wonderful upside to not being too close to a major airport is that this destination has far more beauty than crowds in the summer.
Our conference will be held in the stunning Bud Werner Memorial Conference Room. This located in the middle of town at 1289 Lincoln Avenue in Steamboat Springs. This meeting room is adjacent to the town library, with a back porch overlooking the Yampa River.
We look forward to seeing you there!

The Philosophy Behind Feline Gastroenterology
Getting Nutrition Into a Cat
The myriad of dietary interventions available to us and our patients are no good if we can’t “administer” them to a sick cat. The cat, much more so than the dog, is about the most non-compliant patient on the planet. Hence, we will explore all options and ideas, from crazy to clever, as we take on the almost impossible task of getting essential nutrition into a feline patient that desperately needs it but is determined not to touch it.
Getting Crap Out of a Cat
Almost as essential to the successful treatment and eventual survival of our feline patients as nutritional support is our ability to extract feces from a constipated cat. Although there are scattered reports of megacolon in dogs, it is almost invariably a side-effect of some sort of surgical intervention; the cat is quite capable of developing a Megacolon without anyone else’s help. Recognizing the condition before it happens is critical to any success in treating it after it appears!
Feline Triaditis: The Comorbid Cat
Cats, like grandparents, rarely if ever suffer from just a single ailment. The veterinary profession (as well as the pet food companies) have recently taken note of the impact of feline comorbidities. The posterchild for this movement is Feline Triaditis. This discussion will highlight what has been said, what has been postulated, what is speculated, and what is actually known about this condition, drawing on the wisdom of some of our profession’s most prominent “Influencers”.
